Rahu Temple

The Rahu Paithani Temple is the only Rahu temple in the world; it is situated in the Pauri district of the state of Uttarakhand. Here, the planetary deity Rahu is worshipped alongside Lord Indreshwar Mahadev, and the temple is renowned for its ability to pacify the malevolent effects of the planet Rahu. According to the *Skanda Purana*, Rahu performed penance to Lord Shiva at this very site, and the name of this place is derived from Rahu's *gotra* (lineage)—Paithinasi.
